When we think of big borders, sarees and dupattas high on culture and rich texture and fabrics Gaurang Shah sure does cross our minds. His latest collection Chitravali showcased at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2017 was exactly all that and much more.
Chitravali, the latest outstanding collection by Gaurang Shah pays rich tribute to the beautiful art of Kalamkari. How the wonderful designer chose to do this is art by itself. When we look closely at the Kalamkari art done on these divine sarees, you will be able to see that the artisan has captured the faces from the caves of Ajanta and Ellora.
If you want to know more about how the collection was created, well here is the info about that. Each of these unique pieces are either organza which is custom made with silk and has a satin finish. The Kanjeevaram silk fabric and the khadi has been customized in such a way that the natural dyes can seep in and bring out these bold designs. Earthy tones have been used which would totally complement the season and also gives a grand look and feel to each ensemble.
Apart from these exquisite sarees there are gorgeous lehengas that have this Kalamkari art and mixed with good amount of bling. The bling is done in such a way that it does not over power the actual essence, which is both the fabric and also the art which is on it.
If I had to pick a personal favorite, then it sure would be one of these awesome looking anarkalis from Gaurang Shah’s Chitravali. Everything about it is just perfect and would surely check all the boxes we are looking for clothes that are timeless.
Through Chitravali Gaurang Shah has taken around a fabulous fabric tour across India with usage of fabrics right from Kanjeevarm to Jamdhani and the dyeing in Kolkatta with art inspiration from the Ajanta caves. Chitravali deserves a standing ovation!!!
